抄録

The purpose of this study is to identify factors that prevent development of data-based problem solving skills and to provide a basis for curriculum improvement. Two studies are conducted for this purpose. In the first study, we investigate how a one-semester course on introductory data analysis affects students’ performance on data-based problem solving tasks. In the second study, we ask students to work on these tasks in small groups and analyze the process. Based on the results, three preventive factors are identified: (a) losing the aim of the analysis,( b) persisting in particular cases, and( c) preferring intuitive decisions. Finally, we discuss how to improve the curriculum based on the findings.
