言語理解は高い一方で、音声言語による表出に困難があるために、自分の要求や感情が相手に伝わりにくいダウン症幼児1名を対象に、音声言語のみによるコミュニケーション指導に代わって、AACの観点から、絵カードや写真カードを媒介するコミュニケーションの方法を指導した。その際、A児の通う幼稚園の遊具の写真カードや、A児の好きな玩具の写真カードを使用し、指導に伴うA児の言動の変化を観察した。その結果、全場面を通してA児はカードを介してコミュニケーションの方法を獲得することができた。さらに、カードをポインティングするだけではなく、ジェスチャーを行ったり、具体物の名称を言ったりするなど、様々な応答の様式で相手に伝えることが可能となった。またカードがない状態でも、同様な表出行動が認められた。つまり、カードをコミュニケーションの補助として使用することで、A児の自発的なコミュニケーションを促進できたことが示された。 This paper is a case study on a child with Down's Syndrome, who has difficulty verbally expressing her emotions and ideas, despite possessing a high level of language comprehension. She was not only instructed on how to improve her oral communication skills, She was also introduced to a method in which she could communicate using pictures. In order to test this method, pictures of toys from the preschool she attends were used as well as her favorite toys. Careful observation of a change in her speech pattern and behavior allowed me to witness an improvement in her voluntary communication skills.
