“Maboroshi” of Genji-monogatari describe Hikaru Genji whose wife Murasakinoue has died sorrowful all the year through. This book has a pecuiiar structure that Waka play a central role. It is necessary to describe that Hikaru Genji comes to become a priest. Hikaru Genji spends his sorrow time with various memories. Especially, people that can talk Hikaru Genji and compose a Waka each other, hold memories of Murasakinoue in common. That is, Onna-Sannomiya who became a priest can’t have a conversastion. But, any conversastions can’t heal Hikaru Genji. So, Hikaru Genji burns Murasakinoue’s letters that remind Hikaru Genji of Murasakinoue. It is an action that disappear Murasakinoue’s memories. Hikaru Genji is able to forget Murasakinoue to burn the letters up. To forget Murasakinoue, Hikaru Genji can give up his sorrow.
