Cruising is one of the recreational activities that is enjoying great popularity in developed countries in Europe and the other parts of the world that have a strong maritime tradition and share extensive marine lerisure activity. Unfortunatcly, cruising [in yachts] is an activity that is virtually non- existent in Japan. Cruising in yacht is a leisure activity which involves sailing a yacht, visiting various ports and enjoying shopping and dining, or anchoring in deserted inlets, some times spend a night and enjoying bathing and the natural beauty. In the advanced industrial civilizations of the West, such pleasure by yachts is very common and popular. Many youth or older people of the middle or higher income categories interested in cruising and who either own yachts, or charter them, enjoy sailing the Mcditerranean, the Aegean, the Caribbean, or South Pacific. The purpose of this report is to review the, actual condition of cruising in Mediterranean water, based on the writer's experience of a one- month crusing around Corsica on a 44- foot yacht. The writer has 60 years' experience of sailing, 33 years of owing cruiser, 8 years cruising in Mediterranean water during the two- month- summer vacation.\n　欧米海洋(並びにレジャー)先進国に於ては極めて一般的であり，わが国には事実上存在しないレジャーにクルージングの楽しみがある。クルージングとはヨットで航海し，港々を尋ねて上陸し，ショッピングや飲食を楽しみ，或は人気無い入江に錨を打つて水浴を楽しみ，多くの場合一夜を明かして自然の風光を楽しむレジャーを指す。欧米文明・工業先進国にあっては上記のようなクルージングの楽しみは極めて一般的であり，中産階級以上の経済力を持つ層and/orその気のある若者・老年層の多くが自らのヨットを持ち，或はチャーターし，地中海，エーゲ海，カリブ海，或は南太平洋海域を航海し，クルージングの楽しみを満喫している。　この場合のヨットyachtとは小は20フィート，大は100フィートに及ぶ帆走艇又は機走艇であって，生活機能すなわち宿泊，用便，調理の設備を持ち，数日，数週間，時に数カ月の洋上生活に耐える航海設備を持つ船舶のことであって，日本人が考える日帰り用の“ヨット”のことでは無い。100フィートを越す豪華ヨットには別に“メガ”ヨットmegayachtなる呼稱があり，数少ない例外を除きモーターボートであり，巨富の象徴と目されている。　本稿の目的は筆者らが筆者の所有する44フィートのヨットによってコルシカ島を一周した経験を例に，欧米に於けるクルージングの実態並びにその周辺事情(例えば「フェリーについて」)を検証せんとするものである。筆者のヨット歴は60年，クルーザー歴は33年，地中海巡航歴は8年(但し夏期2カ月のみ)である。　(注。ヨットの大きさは普通船の全長をフィートで表示する。トン数は用いられない)
