Abstract

We carried out a survey by mail to citizens of Sagamihara. The purpose of the investigation are as follows. 1) To clarify what kind of opinion people have about participatory technology assessment (PTA) methods. 2) To clarify whether their approval is provided for the introduction of PTA methods into science classes. The results of the survey suggest the following. 1) The PTA methods are not well recognized. 2) It is supported highly that politicians and bureaucrats respect citizens’ opinions, in the decision making process of the science and technology policy. 3) All representative PTA methods are highly evaluated. 4) Particularly, high support is provided for simulated experience in the science classes. 5) However, the intention of participating in PTA is not so high.
