Utako Shimoda (1854-1936) wrote the “woman who appeared to ancient literature” of Chapter 2 of “The Japanese woman.” She told various female images on the basis of the mythos of the “Kojiki.” The central target of Chapter 2 is a goddess of Amaterasu. Utako Shimoda drew the goddess as an ideal woman’s type. Moreover, she is the “prehispanic woman who plays an active part” of Chapter 3, and wrote the anecdote of 13 female images of ancient Japan. After an essential principle tells her first, she arranges a series of anecdotes. The essay on women of medieval times or modern times of the form is also the same. Each concrete anecdote of Chapter 3 summarizes. But, Empress Genmei, the woman who published the “Kojiki,” wants to introduce the main point. In this paper, I recognize the mythos of the “Kojiki” as a historical essay word. And I read and comprehend the essay on women of Utako Shimoda’s Japanese ancient times. I contrast the researcher of other histories of ideas which followed generationally, and examine the special feature of Utako Shimoda’s ideological expression.
