説明

Japan's religious and cultural traditions are different than those found in the West. Though Japan is just now becoming multi-cultural, the acceptance of various aspects of outside culture and religious ideas has continued since the first occasions that Japan had contact with people and ideas coming from the Asian continent. There has been an acceptance as well as an accommodation and assimilation of “foreign" religions found in Japan. Through it all, a very interesting concept of religion has emerged in Japan over the years. Many today may state that they are not religious or have no serious commitment towards one particular religion, but in fact Japanese are quite religious. It is just that their religiosity is expressed in different ways than found in other cultures. Herein is an examination of how Japanese religiosity is expressed one way in Japan's pop culture. This expression is found in the manga series, Saint Young Men, and the first book in this series is used in this introductory study of Japanese concepts of religion as found in Japanese pop culture.
