Abstract

Sangǰaydorǰi, one of the nobles of Tüsiyetü qan ayimaγ, played a very important role in the Ch’ing dynasty’s policy of consolidating its rule over Qalq-a Mongolia in the years of Ch’ien-lung 乾隆, especially after the invasion of ○egün γar by Ch’ing forces. He supported the Ch’ing in the Qalq-a Mongol resistance, as well as in the rebellion of Činggünǰab and in the Qalq-a movement for the Russian rule. Accordingly, Sangǰaydorǰi was appointed to conduct negotiations with Russia, and oversee Yeke Küriy-e 庫倫 of ○ebtsündamba qutuγtu. This is the origin of Küriyen-ü amban 庫倫辦事大臣. Because of Sangǰaydorǰi’s support, Ch’ing rulers were able to realize and consolidate easily their dominance over the Qalq-a, especially over Tüsiyetü qan aymaγ.Some scholars claim that Sangǰaydorǰi resisted the Ch’ing but the author thinks not. Rather Sangǰaydorǰi served the Ch’ing ruler’s intention to rob the power which Tüsiyetü qan and Čenggünǰab (lieutenant general of Uliyasutai) held over the Qalq-a Mongols.○:Jの頭にV(大文字)
