Description

This research aims to clarify the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake on home cooking menus as of one year after the earthquake, including changes between the first six months and the second six months of the period. I conducted an online questionnaire survey of 300 housewives living in a household of 2 people or more in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The number of dinner items decreased over the period from one year before the quake to one year after the quake. The respondents replied that they pay more attention to the production regions of single-item fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, boiled fish, grilled fish, and sliced raw fish (sashimi). Many of them took into account information about radioactive materials at supermarkets and other stores. The housewives showed almost the same level of concerns about the above two issues in six months and one year following the quake. Regarding the inspection results of radioactive contamination by food, the respondents had the keenest interest in the radioactivity of vegetables. Milk, and seafood followed. Vegetables and seafood remained high in the ranking both in the first six months and the second six months.
