Abstract

Relentless Internet traffic increase and the recent advent of hyper giant content holders are changing traditional Internet paradigm. Limitation of silicon-based technologies is becoming more and more tangible, which stems from ever increasing LSI power dissipation. Exploiting optical technologies is the way to resolve the problems, however, their introduction remains limited. The barriers mostly exist in the node technologies. The next steps to proceed in removing them are presented with some state-of-the-art technical development.
