抄録

The well-known Foucault Pendulum has been used to detect the effect of the Earth's rotation upon the motion of a pendulum oscillating under the action of gravity. In writing the equations of motion for a pendulum supported by a string having a length ι at any point with a northern latitude φ, we take the system of rectangular coordinate axes ξ, η, ζ which are fixed in the Earth and moving with it. The ξ axis is tangent to the meridian at that point due south and the η axis is tangent at the same point to a parrallel circle toward the east while the ζ axis has the radial direction vertically upwards. Keeping in mind the direction of the Coriolis accelaration, the differential equations of relative motion of a pendulum derived by Foucault become・・・[the rest omitted]
