Description

Movement of beetles living on sappy trees was surveyed by mark-and-recapture method in a secondary oak forest (Afan woodland trust) in Shinano town, central Japan. Most of the marked beetles were recaptured at jelly traps set about 150m intervals. An individual beetle (female), however, traveled more than 1km. Judging from these facts, beetles sucking on tree sap repeat short distance movements, and long distance movements of these beetles could not frequently occur.
