Abstract

Proton dynamics in ice VII under pressure was studied by means of non-equilibrium thermodynamic modeling. It was shown that a characteristic peak will appear in proton conductivity when ice VII transits from ‘plastic state’ to ‘solid state’ at around 10GPa under compression at room temperature. The characteristic peak of conductivity implies highly active motion of protons, which may affect proton chemistry in ice VII.
