The SK110 and SK100 Tephra Beds in the Tsunan and Shitada areas, Niigata region and their grain-size characteristics as subaqueous gravity flow deposits

Description
The SK110 and SK100 Tephras are one of the prominent widespread gravity flow deposits of early Pleistocene in central Japan respectively. Two localities of the SK110 and SK100 Tephra Beds, namely the Tsunan-Tazawagawa of southern Niigata Prefecture and Komagome in the Shitada Hill, east of the Niigata Plain, were described. The Tsunan area is about 100km and the Shitada area is 165km apart from the possible volcanic sources. Grain-size characteristics of the SK110 and SK100 Tephras in the two licalities were examined. Decrease of the grain-size downflow to the distance from the source is not performed in the lower parts of the SK110 and SK100 Tephras, which implies plug flow conditions to some extent. Comparison of wet and dry sieving methods in grain-size analyses was shown in the Appendix.
