A numerical method is presented for the surface wave analysis of half-plane having a periodic structure. In order to grope out the dispersion curves of surface waves over a wide region, an improvement in the computational efficiency is attempted. This is realized by employing a transfer matrix for nodal vectors between the lower and the upper boundaries of a unit cell. Waves transmitting in the half-plane toward the far field are composed of eigenvectors of the transfer matrix. Exploration of the surface wave modes in a wavenumber-frequency domain can be reduced to an eigenvalue problem of a matrix consisted of the above eigenvectors. A numerical procedure to calculate the wave motion of surface wave modes is also constructed. The developed method is applied to the dispersion analysis of periodic half-planes. The validity of the proposed method is proved through those analyses, and characteristics of the dispersion curves and the wave motion are discussed.
