ストレングス視点は、論理実証主義から社会構成主義へのメタ理論の転換を背景に、医療モデルのアンチテーゼとして展開した。ストレングス視点は、ジェネラリスト・ソーシャルワークを形成する主要な枠組みであり、その特徴は、利用者のストレングスを見出し、個人から環境への交互作用をふまえ介入することにある。ICF(国際生活機能分類)とストレングス視点は、利用者の個人因子と環境因子からその長所を見出し開発することに共通点がある。そして、ジェネラリスト・ソーシャルワークによる実践は、ICFの理念を実現するひとつの方法となる。ストレングス視点によるジェネラリスト・ソーシャルワークは、障害とストレングスをアセスメントする視点を提供し、個人・集団・組織・地域の交互作用をふまえ介入する。ストレングス視点は、地域生活を支援する重要な概念となる。

Strength model was made by the antithesis of medical model under the background of the change of meta-theoretical framework from logical positivism to social constructivism. Stregth perspective is essential framework for generalist social work, and its feature is that social workers find out clients' strength and they intervene clients based on the transaction between clients and environment. ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health) and strength perspective have common viewpoints in finding out clients' good points and build them through individuals environmental factors. practice based on the framework of generalist social work is one of the ways to realize the concept of ICF. Strengths perspective in generalist social work provides viewpoints for assessment of obstacles and strength. Social workers, based on this perspective, make intervention in transaction among individuals, group, organization and community. Strengths perspective provides essential concept to promote community care support.
