Description
In recent years, the unemployment rate in Japan has been declining. We are interested in how the decline in the unemployment rate has affected the economy. There have been many economic reports about Okun’s Law and Phillips Curve in the past. We analyze the relationship between the unemployment rate, GDP growth, and ratio of job openings to job applicants for all 47 prefectures in Japan. The decrease in birthrate and the increase in the aging population will lead to a labor shortage in Japan. Thereby, the mismatch index is based on the relationships between the number of job seekers and the number of each occupation, which has been proposed as the ideal criteria by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. We analyze the mismatch index of 11 occupation categories for the last six years. According to the analysis, we found that the mismatch index of office work was the highest of all the occupations.
