Description
A study on traditional dyeing by plant extract from fallen leaves of cherry tree was carried out. The effects of pH of dip bath on dyeabilities were investigated. The extraction liquid was prepared by dissolving sodium carbonate into distilled water at the concentration of (0.05~10) g/ℓ. Dip bath was prepared from the mixture of the extract and buffer, and the dipping liquid was adjusted at pH 3~7. Estimation of dyeability of dyed fabric was carried out by measuring L* ,a* and b* using a spectro-color meter. Dyeing of twilled silk was carried out through mordant dyeing using several mordants. The remarkable effect of pH of dye bath was clarified, and excellent and clear dyeability was obtained in the case of high value of pH 5~6. Superior dyeability was obtained at pH 6 in the case of iron mordanting, and clear deep grey dyeing was given, and dyeability was low at pH 3~4 and 7. Difference of dyeability obtained by two extracts, one by distilled water and the other by tap water was investigated. Dyeability of extract by tap water was clarified more superior than by distilled water.
