In 2017, course of study for elementary and junior high schools were revised by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan. In gymnastics, several skills were newly exemplified in the lower grades than before. In particular, in the third and fourth grades of elementary school, “neck spring” and “head spring” are introduced in the category of the vaulting box. It is understandable for students to learn such skills as early as possible ; however, more and more responsibilities would be demanded for teachers to teach. Therefore, this study clarified important points as well as potential problems in the process of teaching such skills to students, with reference to exampled classes held in a university for training students to be teachers. In particular, this study suggested the importance of learning plans to prevent possible failures. This knowledge can be greatly reduced to school physical education.
