抄録

Brief survey of the recent studies of the finite amplitude waves in the collision free plasma under the influence of the magnetic field is given. The basic equations for the flow of the collision free plasma in the magnetic field (Boltzmann's equations for both the ions and the electrons and Maxwell's equations) is given and the difficulty in handling these equations is explained. The basic equations for the especially simple case of the collision free cold plasma is derived. As a typical example of the finite amplitude waves in the collision free cold plasma, the solitary waves propagating perpendicularly to the magnetic field (which was studied by Adlam and Allen) is discussed in detail. As the other typical example of the finite amplitude waves in the collision free (but not cold) plasma, shock waves which are induced by the sudden application of the electric field and propagate perpendicularly to the magnetic field into a plasma at rest (which were studied by Auer Hurwitz and Kilb) is discussed in detail. Another related studies are also discussed briefly.
