抄録

On the germination of Bacillus sulbtilis spores, some environmental factors, especially germination pH, osmotic pressure and anaerobic condition were studied. The following results were obtained. 1. Spore germination was observed to have more than 90 per cent germination rate between pH 4.5 to 7.5, while in the presence of acetate or sodium chloride germination pH in acidic side was shifted to about pH 5.5 (Figure 1). 2. Remarkable inhibitory effect on spore germination was not observed in a solution of 10% sodium chloride or of 40% glucose by the decrease of optical density of spore suspension as criteria of germination (Figure 2). 3. Under anaerobic conditions maintained with 0.5% sodium thioglycolate, Bacillus subtilis spore germinated rapidly at a higher germination rate in the first hour (Table 1).
