In this study we have observed and evaluated the foundations of Japanese and Korean fish farming industries by comparing the marketing structure in both Japan and Korea. In Japanese fish farming industries there is a problem of structural overproduction. To solve it, the industry sell not only fresh fish, but also live and processed fishes. Also many types of distribution system and distributors exist to solve the problem. On the other hand, the Korean distribution system is very simple in comparison with the Japanese system, and it focuses the distribution on the live fish. The causalities for the differences in both two countries are as follows; 1) In Korea, the live fish market has grown rapidly in a way that there is no need to sell the fresh (dead but fresh) fish now. 2) The fish farmers in Korea have the features of an enterprise, and they are able to sell their fish by themselves. 3) The fishery cooperative in Korea is unable to gather the fish from the farmers to deliver and to sell in many kinds of markets. However, the Korean fish farming industry exists on the basis that they only sell the live fish at a high price which suggests that its structure may be fragile compared with the Japanese one.
