キリスト教宣教としての茶の湯 ―大阪の史跡を中心に―

本稿は2019 年12 月から2020 年3 月までに大阪女学院図書館にて行われた展示「お茶とキリスト教」を論考としてまとめたものである。大阪女学院は大阪城の近くに位置し、16世紀後半には、大阪を中心に広げられた政治・文化と共にキリスト教宣教の中心地でもあった。当時のカトリック教会は教会の中に茶室を設けるなど、宣教に茶の湯を積極的に取り入れ宣教活動を展開していった。このようなキリスト教の日本における土着化と宗教的な寛容性を認める宣教方法が展開されたことで、秀吉のバテレン追放後も大阪とその周辺にはキリスト教信仰が継承されて行き、今日においてなお私たちはその宣教の跡をたどることができる。

This paper is a compilation of the exhibition “Tea and Christianity” held at the Osaka Jogakuin Library from December 2019 to March 2020. Osaka Jogakuin is located near Osaka Castle, and in the latter half of the 16th century, during the Toyotomi Hideyoshi era, it was also the central stage of Christian missions along with the politics and culture spread around Osaka. The Christian church at that time actively incorporated the tea ceremony into its mission and set up a tea room in the church to develop various missionary activities. In addition,by incorporating the tea ceremony into the practice of Christian ministry and religion, the spirituality of Christianity can be seen in the tea ceremony of Sen no Rikyu. With the development of such missionary methods that recognize the indigenous Christianity and religious tolerance in Japan, the Christian faith was firmly inherited in and around Osaka even after Hideyoshi's expulsion of Batteren, and today we can still follow the trace of that ministry.
