Abstract

For the prediction and prevention of sand disaster, it is necessary to investigate original factors in the sand disaster by the research in stricken districts. As results of the research in six districts, around the Mt. Yakuri-Gokenzan, stricken by the downpour of the typhoon No. 7617, two items are recognized as original factors : 1. The thickness and extension of weathered layer of granite alongside a stream. 2. The ununiformity or discontinuity of physical and geotechnical properties of soil. In other words more precicely, where weathered layer of granite, from about several desimeter to a few meter in thickness, exists alongside a stream, there often happens stream type and disaster ; and where two types of soil with different physical and geotechnical properties exist contiguoulsy, there often happens collapse type sand disaster. As they are all latent factors, it is expected to analogize them from sensible ones, e. g. topography or vegetation.
