Purpose: We created a self-management health course program focusing on daily activities of the independent community-based elderly people and examined indicators for evaluating the subjects. We actually held a lecture and examined the reactions and effects on the participants. We also examined how to hold the course. Method: We created a lecture program consisting of a health mini-lecture on prevention, a mini-lecture on daily activities, and an exercise program related to daily activities. In cooperation with the Regional Comprehensive Support Center, we recruited target elderly people. Twenty people aged 65 to under 85 were included. We investigated health condition, living condition, basic checklist, living activity confirmation table, assessment sheet for guiding living activity, and physical fitness measurement (muscle strength, balance, and walking). Eight lectures were given to examine changes in physical fitness measurement and changes in the subject's life. Results: Some subjects felt musculoskeletal deterioration, depressive tendency, and cognitive decline. There were subjects who felt inconvenience in various daily activities such as climbing stairs, carrying heavy objects, among others. Physical fitness tests revealed a substantial change in activities, such as standing on one leg with eyes open and the timed up and go test (TUG). Conclusion: In this health course program, some subjects were aware of their current health status, reviewed their lives, gained awareness with respect to the benefit of exercise, and experienced positive changes in their lifestyle. It is meaningful to review the effects of this course, including the follow-up method, and continue to perform it.
