A society tended to be estimated mainly by an economic index, such as GDP. From recognition of its limitation, various trials which are going to understand a society in many dimensions have been made since 1980s. For example, HDI tries to measure the achievement of a social economy in three dimensions of ‘a long and healthy,' ‘knowledge' and ‘a decent standard of living'. HDI is created by synthesizing these three dimensional indices and then should be able to grasp the real image of a social economy more correctly. But a social economy cannot exist by itself and is always performing the metabolic change with the natural ecological system. The metabolic process is a more fundamental dimension for the society and new indicators, such as EF and BC, were created to measure its sustainability in this dimension. However these indicators, as its proposers themselves said, have a human-centered tendency. Therefore, in order to know an exact vision of a social economy, it is necessary to look down it in a still larger field of view. One of the indicators which make it possible is LPI. Ecological economics needs to grasp the whole situation of social economy which these indices show. In this case, the approach of the reproduction theory which the social economics has thought as important seems to be useful. In order to realize this possibility, reconstruction of theoretical framework is called for.
