気象に関するアンケート調査により, 児童・生徒・学生の意識・知識の実態調査を行い, 学校教育と社会教育の効果を評価した。天気予報の利用の頻度は, 全学年で高く, 天気に対する関心の高さが確認できた。特に女子は全学年で男子より高かった。気象情報の入手先は, 学年進行に伴いその多様化が認められた。十種雲級や天気図記号の理解では, 学校教育の効果が確認できた。天気に関することわざは, 学校教育では取り扱わない動物に関する天気のことわざも多く指摘されていたことから, 毎日の生活の中でも気象に関する知識が獲得されていることが示唆された。季節の変化に対する設問から, 学年が低いほど直感的な指標である気温から季節変化を感じ取り, 学年と共に季節の感じ方がより高次元に(間接的に)なることが分かった。気象に関する知識の修得は, 学校教育とテレビや新聞なども含めた社会教育からなされるために, 学年による認知度が用語によって異なることが認められた。そこで, 気象用語を成長段階に対応した認知度の変化に注目して6グループ(認知型)に分類した。

A survey performed to determine the effect of scholastic and social education on comprehension and knowledge of weather for students and pupils. The frequency of weather-forecasting was high in all grades ; especially amongst the females. It infers that students are interested in weather and use it in daily life. College students use much more different weather information sources than elementary-school pupils. The higher the grade level, the wider variety of information sources. Scholastic Education's effect on cloud classification and weather map were confirmed ; especially for the 9th graders. Many weather-related proverbs that mention animals are answered but are not covered in school science. This indicates the effects of social versus school education ; which includes TV weather reports and weather forecasting in newspapers and other public media. Youths tend to feel 'Season' via temperature change versus emotional and/or cultural change experienced by older people. The level of weather comprehension depends on the maturity of the student and the particular weather term which was acquired through scholastic or social education. The weather terms were classified into six groups, considering the change of the level of understanding per grade.
