The optical absorption spectra of titania thin films as the porous electrode in dye sensitized solar cell were measured by using the piezoelectric photo-thermal (PPT) technique. The effects of the anatase contents on the optical properties were investigated from the nonradiative transition point of view. An optical absorption edge was clearly observed in the PPT spectrum. It was found that the decrease of the anatase contents resulted in a decrease in optical absorption edge of titania thin films. It is extremely difficult to measure the spectrum by using the traditional transmission method. This is because that we cannot ignore the influence of scattered incident light. Usefulness of the PPT technique for investigating the optical properties of titania thin films was also demonstrated.
