Description

Xiao and Shen (2009) defined the sentence-final particle LE in the epistemic domain as "emergence of epistemic content" and "think" in a broad sense. Actually, these semantic expressions are too abstract so that the Chinese beginners can't accurately use the sentence-final particle LE in the epistemic domain through these semantic expressions. Several semantic expressions, such as "affirm", "decide", "determine" and "confirm", which often appear in the previous researches, are some kind of elaboration of "emergence of epistemic content" and "think". However, there are still some problems in the semantic expressions of "affirm", "decide", "determine" and "confirm". This paper will elaborate cognitively on the semantic expressions of "emergence of epistemic content" and "think", and then verify the validity of the elaborated semantic expressions with different kinds of examples.
