[Abstract] This paper is the continuation of research by Lee (2020), and is a Korean-Japanese contrastive linguistic analysis focusing on the disappearance of fillers in subtitle translations. The element lost in the translation subtitles is information that cannot be conveyed when studying foreign language through the use of subtitles, or simply when just enjoying a cinematic production. This paper uses as its materials for comparative analysis the fillers that appear in the Japanese film Let Me Eat Your Pancreas and the Korean subtitles that correspond to them. Firstly, it surveys the role of fillers in language that was previously revealed in earlier research. Then, it quotes all of the instances of fillers in the Japanese dialogue of the film, and presents the dictionary definition and the frequency of their occurrence. It finds as a result that roughly 55% of the fillers that are used in Japanese lines are lost in the Korean subtitles. In the analysis, the role and the meaning of fillers used in Japanese lines are shown. On the basis of that survey, it analyses the instances of subtitles in which the fillers are lost and puts them in contrast with instances where they are retained in the Korean text. The result of this analysis finds that the Japanese language, as opposed to Korean, is one that uses fillers with high frequency, and also that variety of such fillers is considerable.
