The Japanese sake industry has played an important role as a traditional industry that can support the regional economy. Sake is an important part of the Japanese culture; not only has it been used at numerous ceremonial occasions e.g. funeral, wedding. Furthermore, it has been well recognized in oversea countries. However, the domestic demand for sake has decreased in the last couple of years, caused a large number of sake manufacturing companies close down. As a result to this situation, numerous producers shifted their focus on exporting sake and raising the quality of production sake. However, the effects have not had any big impacts on stopping closing of productions sites or positive effects on demand. In Japan, the regional economy recession is due to the aging population, and the young populations are concentrated in the metropolitan area. The majority of the sake manufacturing companies is located in the regional areas, and it is normally the economic pillar that supports the regional economy. In this sense, the reinvigorate of sake manufacturing companies could trigger the revitalization of the regional economy. This study focuses on examining the overall results of regional small and medium-sized sake manufacturing companies which have including, the factor of closing down, long term operator, place of productions, and the possibility of reinvigorating. The aim of this study is to make a contribution to the felid of reinvigorating regional economic revitalization in Japan.
