本研究では、International Affective Picture System（IAPS; Lang, Bradley,& Cuthbert, 2008）から選んだ写真に対して、覚醒度および感情価の評定を行った。従来の評定方法では、参加者が評定している感情が、「刺激の提示によって喚起される参加者の感情（喚起条件）」を評定しているのか、あるいは「提示された刺激の内容に含まれる感情（内包条件）」を評定しているのかという点が不明瞭であった。そこで、この2 点について尋ねるような2 種類の情動を評定する項目を設定し、同じ刺激に対して評定をそれぞれ2 回行い、2 種類の評定値について検討した。その結果、覚醒度評定値において、喚起・内包評定条件間で評定平均値が異なるという結果が示された。また、喚起条件、内包条件における覚醒度、感情価評定値間の相関から、評定条件によって有意な相関関係が得られるかが異なることがわかった。以上のことから、参加者の喚起される情動を評定するよう教示を与えたときと、刺激に内包される情動を評定するよう教示を与えたときでは、測定された覚醒度感情価に反映されるものが異なることが示された

In this study, ratings of arousal and emotional valence were obtained for pictures selected from IAPS（International Affective Picture System; Lang, Bradley, & Cuthbert, 2008). Using conventional rating methods, it was unclear whether the ratings reflected participants’“ emotion aroused by the presentation of stimulus (evoked condition)” or “emotion included in the content of the stimulus (inherent condition).” Therefore, we obtained two separate ratings for the two types of emotion for each stimulus, and investigated the two types of ratings. Results showed that the mean arousal rating differed between the evoked and inherent conditions. In addition, different correlations between arousal and emotional valence were obtained in the evoked and inherent conditions, depending on the types of rating used. Thus, the results show that the emotion reflected in the measured ratings of arousal and valence were different depending on whether participants were required to report the emotion aroused by the stimulus or the emotion included in the content of the stimulus
