In recent years, the Japanese economy has relied on increasing numbers of foreign tourists visiting Japan. Since the "Visit Japan" project was launched in 2003, the number of foreign visitors to Japan reached 32 million in 2018, exceeding 30 million for the first time. What is the cause of this remarkable increase in the number of foreign visitors to Japan? This paper analyzes the determinants of the number of foreign tourists visiting Japan.

近年、我が国経済はますます多くの訪日外国人観光客に頼ることになっている。 2003年の「ビジットジャパン」プロジェクト発足以来、 たとえば、2018年の訪日外国人観光客数は3200万人と はじめて3000万人を突破した。 こうした目を見張るべき訪日外国人観光客数の増加の原因は何であるのか？ 本稿は訪日外国人観光客数の決定要因を探る。
