C-018 A new File Transfer Protocol for a Hybrid Cluster-based File System

We propose a new mechanism for handling requests in a cluster based file system. This mechanism is based on a hybrid server design and a new file transfer protocol. This design uses a mini-master as a central authority. This master server does not hold critical metadata, to avoid being a single-point of failure. The client/server file transfer protocol allows the client to send meta-information during requests. This information is used by the mini-master to make routing decisions in order to improve system's overall response times. We built a prototype to implement the new file system architecture and transfer protocol.
