Abstract

This was a "general studies" homemaking project at Wakasa Elementary School, located near Lake Manko, a registered wetland under the 1999 Ramsar Convention.\nIn order to reflect on their lifestyle, the participants researched measure for conserving the Natural environment including the tideland mangroves of Lake Manko.\nAs a result, they held an "Environmental Summit" divided into four groups, to discusstopics regarding the lake:(1) Its fauna(animals);(2) Its flora (plants); (3) Actions to conserve ; and (4) Refuse. After the group session, they adopted the "Children's Environmental Summit Declaration".\nThe project seems to have developed the participants' awareness of their lifestyle (e.g. how to use, dispose of and recycle water wisely ) and wildlife ecology.
