Risk and crisis communication get an earful when some negative chain or event occurs. These two methods are concepts imported from the West, but unfortunately, there is no denying the fact that they are not properly understood. If we are not accurately communicated in responding to risks and crises, we will not be able to make good decisions and, in some cases, amplify the risks and crises. 　Risk and crisis communication have been used as one of the key tools to solve these problems. However, their content is far from being properly understood. Moreover,with the growing importance of risk and crisis management, the two methods have not always been discussed in parallel. This study revisits the meanings of both concepts and clarifies their scope through an accurate understanding of risk communication and crisis communication.
