According to many badminton players, there are some differences in impact feeling and flight trajectory between feather and synthetic shuttlecocks. The stiffness of the structural materials must affect the impact feeling. The difference in in-flight trajectory is thought to be causally related to the Reynolds number dependency. In the present study, dynamic axial force and number of revolutions in free flight were measured using the vertical wind tunnel for a range of Reynolds number 10,000 < Re < 40,000. Typical results are as follows: (1) Dynamic axial forcecharacteristics of synthetic shuttlecock have almost identical Reynolds number dependencies with feather shuttlecock. (2) Axial force characteristics resulting from dynamic tests differ qualitatively and quantitatively from static results.
