Description

Many steel beam-to-column connections were damaged to both the 1994 Northridge and the 1995 Hyogoken-Nanbu Earthquakes, especially bottom beam flanges near by the connection with a composite beam. After those earthquakes, many studies have been carried out on brittle fractures of the beam-column connections. Most of those studies have employed moment-resisting frames to clarify fracture mechanism of connections. This experimental study was conducted on connections with a composite beam to propose a new method for rehabilitation of fractured bottomflange near by the connection. Non-compression knee-brace was used to strengthen the bottom-flange.
