As the global spread of the COVID-19 infection has exacerbated stress among children, coloring pages are attracting attentionas a toy with the potential to provide a distraction. Coloring pages are widely used in childcare and education, but there was less research about the effects on children’s emotions. This study conducted a questionnaire survey of 1,339 elementary school students in fourth grades to sixth grades examined the effects of coloring pages on children’s emotions. A between-subjects two-way analysis of variance with factors which before coloring - after coloring and likes to color - dislikes to color showed that positive emotions were higher in children post-coloring than pre-coloring, and also higher in children who likes coloring than dislikes coloring. Coloring pages might increase children’s positive emotions and reduce stress. On the other hand, coloring pages seemed to have no effect in children’s negative emotions. Further examination is necessary as the result about negative emotions is not match previous studies targeting adolescents and adults.
