Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the support for children not attending school, through considering the advantageous effects of "homework-collage" and "going to school with a school satchel" as concrete measures for community-support in which even non-specialists in the education of children take part in order to understand the mental state of students who refuse to go to school without any apparent reason. The client in this research is a child who has refused to go to school many times every year since the first grade and has not attended school at all since the fourth grade. After careful analysis of his collage works, we found the features which we had discovered in our previous study: "Discovery of psychological aggression through the collage method". However, this case also suggests that the problems of "taijin kyofu" (fear of people) and "identity crisis" lie in the innermost recesses of the phenomenon of his school refusal. A community approach, which involved a clinical psychologist, brought a certain measure of success regarding school refusal. We can put these research results to practical use as one of the effective approaches to helping children refusing to go to school. To use the specialized skill of collage therapy in a community approach is one of the effective approaches to helping children refusing to go to school.
