The term "shokuiku" has been used in many places in recent years, and since 2004, the University has held a "shokuiku class" for children and their guardians living in Eniwa City. Since the Basic Law on shokuiku was promulgated and enforced in 2005, the promotion of shokuiku in Japan has become widely known to the public, and not only schools, but also companies and certification organizations have taken a great interest in shokuiku. However, understanding, objectives, and guidance are not easy because shokuiku covers a wide range of areas, including food production, processing, and food culture. Therefore, this paper proposes the future direction of shokuiku and specific methods for its implementation. In order to find the direction and specific methods of shokuiku in the future, we reviewed the educational content of certification bodies for shokuiku, the efforts of general companies, the current state of shokuiku in developed countries, elementary school home economics textbooks, and conducted a survey of our students' understanding of shokuiku. As a result, we found that although the term "shokuiku" has become widely recognized, there are differences in definitions and understanding of instructional content among individuals, as well as among organizations and institutions.
