To study the Indian Buddhist philosophy through Chinese translations,we have to give much attention to their specific wordings. In particular, to grasp the point of argument in a treatise, it is very important to understand precisely how Sanskrit words that serve grammatical functions are translated into Chinese. As an example of a comparative study of syntax, I will examine a Middle Chinese interrogative `poyou' (頗有) and its Sanskrit equivalent `syāt' in the Abhidharmakośabhāṣya.

漢訳資料によってインド仏教を研究しようとする場合, 漢訳仏典特有の用語法に十分注意する必要がある.特に, 論書で議論の流れをとらえるためには, サンスクリット語の文法的な機能をもつ単語が, どのように漢語に移されているかを正確に理解することが重要である.構文法の比較研究の一例として, 本稿では『阿毘達磨倶舎論』における中古漢語の疑問辞「頗有」とそれに対応するサンスクリット語syātを検討する.
