Relationships among cultural views of self, interpersonal stress-coping and happiness in Japanese adolescents

Abstract

This study examined the relationship among cultural views of self, interpersonal stress-coping and happiness in Japanese adolescents. The participants of 180 students (ratio of valid responses 96.8%;54 males, 126 females) responded to the six questionnaires. Cultural views of self was divided into four groups based on the scale (Iwasaki & Igarashi, 2021). Results showed that “both-high group” (both high levels of independent construal of self and interdependent construal of self) and “high independent construal of self group” significantly exhibits a higher scores of interpersonal adaptive stress-coping than the other groups, and “both-high group” significantly exhibit a higher score of sense of happiness than the other groups. These results were useful research to clarify relationship between development of cultural views of self and Japanese happiness.
