抄録

This paper addresses the elements of the security identity of Norway, through analyzing the decision making process of joining NATO in 1949. Postwar Norwegian governments had faced the demands by superpowers of both blocs and the legacy of complicated wartime relationships. Leaning on the western bloc, Norway tried to achieve its “bridge-building” between both blocs in the framework of the UN. But it eventually failed, leading Norway to clarify its position to join NATO and its postwar security identity seemed to have been formed. The implication of the other elements of security identities is also considered.
