Abstract

[Abstract] The Japanese government has been opening its agricultural, forestry, and fishery market through the signing of the EPA and TPP. On the other hand, to protect domestic agricultural/forestry/fishery businesses, the Japanese government is looking beyond increasing agricultural shipments to domestic markets and is turning to overseas markets. It plans to maintain jobs in the agricultural, forestry and fishery industries by exporting products from such industries with the goal of reaching an export value of two trillion yen by 2025 and five trillion yen by 2030. Behind this goal is the fact that exports of Japanese products (Japanese cuisine ingredients) in general are beginning to increase as a result of Japanese cuisine being added to UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013. Backed by JETRO and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, out of Japanese agricultural, forestry, and fishery products exports of rice and sake (a rice product) in particular are increasing, bringing hope with regard to future export of products in these industries. Therefore, we will look into ways to increase sake exports even further. Sake is an alcoholic beverage made by fermentation. We will explore how to market the export of sake against wine, which is also a fermented alcoholic beverage consumed worldwide. We will make proposals regarding future sales targeting exports to Western countries.
