Abstract

To date, 70 species in 24 families of Heteroptera (Insecta: Hemiptera) have been recorded from Hateruma Island, the Yaeyama Islands, the Ryukyus, Japan. In the present study, the following seven true bug species are recorded from this island for the first time: Dictyla evidens (Drake, 1927) (Tingidae), Eteoneus yasumatsui Takeya, 1962 (Tingidae), Stephanitis (Norba) ishikawai Souma, 2022 (Tingidae), S. (Stephanitis) subfasciata Horváth, 1912, Alloeorhynchus (Alloeorhynchus) vinulus Stål, 1864 (Nabidae), Ploiaria ryukyuana Ishikawa & Tomokuni, 2002 (Reduviidae), and Oncocephalus femoratus Reuter, 1882 (Reduviidae). The discoveries of the former four species (lace bugs) also represent the first records of Tingidae from Hateruma Island, suggesting that the heteropteran fauna of this island is still under-researched, at least for some taxa. This report brings the numbers of species and families known from this island to 77 and 25, respectively.
