Description
Additional ichnological information is provided on the Lower-to-Middle Miocene Kurosedani Formation cropped out in Tateyama Town, eastern part of Toyama Prefecture. Only unidentified lined horizontal burrows and Teredolites are observed in a massive coarse-grained sandstone bed of the Zashubo Conglomerate, Sandstone and Mudstone Alternation Member (lower-to-middle parts of the formation). The lined horizontal burrow exhibits a simple structure that consists of massive coarse-grained sandstone infill surrounded by a thin muddy middle-grained sandstone layer. Its sparse occurrence and circular cross-section indicate that the trace maker had a tolerance under a highly stressed benthic environment and colonized into a coarse sand substrate some after deposition event. Tunnels of Teredolites from the sandstone are bored perpendicular or parallel to grain of the fossil wood, whose attitudes are comparable to T. clavatus and T. longissimus, respectively. Significant diameter size difference is recognized in their tunnels even within an identical fossil wood. This is probably due to difference in parts of a single tunnel, or growth stage of the trace maker.
