筆者がこれまで取り組んできた「非機能造形」とは、そもそもの機能造形たる存在、すなわち、目的に対して適応させる造形の「非」なる造形という意味になるが、それを「役に立たない道具」と筆者は位置付け、制作してきた。その目的は、機能造形に作品(芸術)としての意味を見出すことにある。この核となる考えのもと取り組んできたのが「感覚覚醒デザイン」の研究である。特に近年においては幼児期を対象の中心とした玩具として具現化している。機能造形たる玩具に作品(芸術)としての意味をどのように具現化させるかが本研究制作の新奇性といえる。本稿においては、これまでに至る経緯と作品の変遷、直近の作品成果とそこから推察される今後の展望を記述する。

The “non-functional modeling" that I have been working on so far means the existence of functional modeling in the first place, that is, the “non-" modeling that adapts to the purpose, but I also refer to it as a “useless tool". This is what the author has positioned and created. The purpose is to find meaning as a work (art) in functional modeling. Based on this core idea, we have been conducting research on “sensory arousal design." Especially in recent years, it has been realized as a toy mainly targeted at early childhood. The novelty of this research and production is how to embody the meaning of a work (art) in a functionally shaped toy. In this article, I will describe the history that led up to this point, the evolution of my work, the most recent results of my work, and the future prospects that can be inferred from them.
