Note on Heteropilumnus longipes sensu Sakai (1976) (Pilumnidae) from Okinawa Group, Ryukyu Islands, Japan

Description

A female specimen of pilumnid species was collected from Sesoko Island of the Ryukyu Islands, Japan, which was firstly identified as “Heteropilumnus longipes” in previous Japanese literature. In the recent study, this species was then reidentified asPseudolitochira crinita(type locality: Papua New Guinea), despite the fact that morphological features of the species were different from the holotype ofP. crinita. Those features rather matched well with the original description ofHeteropilumnus longisetum(type locality: Western Australia). Moreover, this Australian species has been placed in the genusHeteropilumnus, however in this study, it was transferred toPseudolitochiradue to the original description of the species and morphological features of the specimen examined.
