It has been pointed out the importance of silence in counseling by many studies. This study aimed to review the studies of the meaning. As a result, the meanings were classified into three and were surveyed. ① "Silence as pause" This is the meaning not so much important meaning. However, the silence as tempo of conversation tells us personality of client. ② “Silence in relations" This is the meaning in relation between counselor and client. Two directionalities are considered. One feels the oneness and the approach with the counselor. Oppositely, one feels the separation and the rupture. Moreover, it is also possible to catch a silence as an acting out and a kind of enactment that shows the relation between counselor and client. ③ “Silence in client" This is the meaning in client by himself. In a process of reflecting his mind, silence is possible to caused. This is an important process in the counseling. Besides, silence is possible to be caused as incubation to the following insight.
